I flew on this plane as a load master during the Biafran Airlift in November-December 1968 and January 1969. It was owned and operated by a company called ARCO formed by German church groups on behalf of Caritas International and the World Council of Churches to fly relief food to starving people in Biafra. We flew at night to avoid being shot down by Nigerian Migs. Two other DC-7Cs in our "fleet" were 5T-TAL and 5T-TAD. TAL was badly damaged by a bomb in Biafra and TAD crashed on landing in Biafra. Near the end of December 1968 5T-Tab reverted to a previous registration number, VR-BCW. I believe - without certain knowledge - that "Bravo Charlie Whiskey" was once operated by KLM as a passenger airliner.
