I was assigned Assistant Crew Chief on this aircraft at former Pease AFB, NH. in 1978-1981. This aircraft (62-3502, assigned aircrew, and ground crew) won the Fairchild Trophy. The most coveted SAC Bombing and Navigation competition for the entire SAC fleet and KC-135 aircrews. The aircraft was a model KC-135 A at the time. Water injected Pratt & Whitney J57 engines. Runway was about 11,000 ft long and with a 155K fuel load ... it used 10,999 ft of it !! Bill Ainesworth (sp?) was the Crew Chief. Additionally, after the competition, the aircraft was "pimped" out on the interior and was the designated Wing Commander's aircraft. It was a show piece and had an incredible high maintenance reliability history. One final trivia note, I had to actually manually lower and pin the nose gear (by crawling into the nose compartment) during one flight after the gear indicator displayed the gear was not down and locked.

My name is David B.Godin. I was the crew chief on KC-135 A 62-3502 in 1979-spring of 1980. Eric Huber was my assistant at that time. Eric was a true professional. I was proud to serve with him.We experienced an engine fire due to a faultu breech cap in the number #1 engine . Was covered in cb fire extinguisher fluid and needed to be taken for medical attention. I received an award from Maj. Pagononi for professionalism for that incident. Great memories of that bird. I also have the Fairchild trophy, insignias and model of an FB-111 from the awards ceremony that I proudly display in a nice cabinet .I have a picture of myself in front of the aircraft along with airman Huber that I will post in the future sincerely Sgt.
