Aircraft N16522 Data

In 1958 I was ferrying the retired RCAF P-51 Mustangs into an airfield in Canastota, New York. James B. DeFuria, of Syracuse, had purchased all 83 Mustangs, plus all of the spare parts from CADC, Crown Assets Disposal Corporation, in Ottawa, Ontario. I was from Calgary, Alberta and De Furia bought N16522 for me to use as a taxi. It had just been completely rebuilt after spending a lifetime in storage. The paint scheme was red with black and white trim. I flew the aircraft into Hamilton, Ontario where a gust of wind stood it on its nose, damaging the prop. It remained in a hangar there for some months, awaiting my pick up after repair. In the meantime, Canadian customs had become aware of the plane’s existence and created some minor problems. I was with the RCAf reserve at the time and flew to Hamilton where I negotiated a retreat to the States, with the Waco YKS-6 N16522.

De Furia sold it to someone else.
