Aircraft N18111 Data

Don't let the olive drab paint job fool you - this is a classic airliner, one of the first DC-3s built. NC18111 was delivered as a DC-3A to United Air Lines; the starboard passenger door and absence of cargo doors on the port give clues as to her identity. In fact, this aircraft was one of the few DC-3s not to have been pressed into WWII service! In the 1970s, the airplane flew for Shawnee Air, her registration updated to N18111. Until late 2006, this poor DC-3 sat as a gate guard in front of a restaurant in Wilmington, DE, exposed to the elements. A group of dedicated aviation enthusiasts from the Massey Aero Museum, Massey, MD, acquired the aircraft and had her trucked to her current location, where she is getting the restoration so long overdue.
