This aircraft, along with sister ZK-NAC (cn19929/ln60) inaugurated domestic jet travel in New Zealand on the 14th October 1968 when one flew from Auckland to Wellington and the other vice versa direction. In buying their first three Boeing 737s, New Zealand was the first country outside Europe and USA to order the then new 737.
I personally flew this aircraft in January 1980. Purchased and owned initially by NAC (National Airways Corporation), which merged into air New Zealand in 1 April 1978. the aircraft was given the name 'Pukeko', Maori name for 'swamp hen'.
Given the historic significance of this machine, it is hoped that it could be repatriated to New Zealand by ship for static preservation.
