This aircraft was built as C-47A 42-93518 and delivered to USAAF on 5/29/44, being assigned to the 9th A.F. for European theatre operations on 6/19. Returned to USA on 9/2/45 and was with the Reconstruction Finance Corp. on 10/31/45. During Aug. 1946 it was leased to Pioneer Air Lines as N54729 and named “Sam Houston.” On 3/1/52 it was returned to the USAF and redesignated as VC-47A because of the airline interior which had been installed, and used it for VIP transport. In 1953 it was redesignated as a C-117C 42-93518. During 1971-72 this plane went to the Indiana Dept. of Civil Defense at Indianapolis, registered as N11ND. Later returned to USAF carrying tail number 0-93518. In 1974 it became N11VU with Vincennes University, Vincennes, IN. In 1975 it was registered N36AP with Avenales Aviation in Lamoille, NV. Since then it has changed hands several times.
