N531M was damaged substantially during a forced landing on July 20, 2007, just a mile or so from Watts-Woodland airport (O41).
Shortly after takeoff, a large predatory bird crashed through the front windscreen. With two people on board combined with the greatly increased drag on the airframe due to the now open cockpit, the 100HP engine could not produce enough power to maintain altitude. The CFI and student pilot were forced to land in a tomato field, where the nose gear was caught up, and the plane flipped over.
