This aircraft was built as C-47A 42-24064 and delivered to USAAF on 7/23/43, serving with U.S. 8th A.F. in the UK. Returned to USA 7/6/45, sold into civilian service as NC74589 in 1949. Changed hands many times over the years.

I have a whole lot of hours in this airplane Douglas N74589. We had R-1892s on it when I was flying it for Express Air Cargo (BELLY UP NOW) out of Donaldson Center in Greenville SC. We flew everywhere in this beautiful airplane. (North & Cntral America). I actually got my part 135 check ride in this airplane. It was the most fun I ever had taking a check ride. We did a lot of work on her (engines, new deck plating/planking interior, reworked panel, new boots) it was a major job putting her in flying condition when we purchased her in 1990.

This plane is presently based at KOXC and has been returned to its D-Day Invasion colors. While the interior has not been renovated, it has been outfitted with 8 first class seats from a B727.

I live in Covington, GA. Our small Covington Municipal Airport is denoted 9A1. This DC3 is currently parked in Covington, where it has been for several years. It's being worked on, slowly, but whenever I visit 9A1 the folks doing the work are not there. This submitted July 1, 2007.
