This aircraft was built as C-47A 42-93685 and delivered to USAAF on 6/16/44 and assigned to Pacific Theatre, final base in Manila. Sold to Australian National Airways on 12/23/45 as VH-ANW and named “Moongana.” Served with that company until 5/28/54 when it went to Guinea Airways and named “Bulolo.” Re-registered as VH-GAK in Aug 1958 until 1960 when taken over by Ansett-ANA and re-registered as VH-ANW. A couple hand changes until retirement in October 1971 at Melbourne. Then sold to Senator Dame Nancy Buttfield for use at Fairfield Youth Camp in New South Wales. Flown to former RAAF base at Gawler on 1/26/72 and dismantled for transport to Chain of Ponds. Reassembled on hill and deteriorated by vandals and weather until 11/7/85 when it was taken to Parafield Airport where Southern Air Maintenance who restored it for use as a restaurant in Perth, marked as VH-MMF “Fortescue.”
