I was on the scientific staff at the UK Meteorological Research Flight when XV208 was acquired and commissioned for its research role beginning 1974, replacing Vickers Varsity WF425. We worked hard to get the aircraft ready for its first major project, the GARP Atlantic Tropical Experiment in the summer of 1974 based in Dakar, Senegal (http://www.ametsoc.org/sloan/gate/).

I was probably one of the very few Air Engineers to fly on this aircraft when it was a C.! and as a W.2. As a Mk1 it was with 48 Sqn in Changi, Singapore between 1967 and 1970. As a W.2 it was with the Met Research Flight From 1989 to 1993. A shame I could not have got the job at Marshalls or I might have been able to add to my hours on the airframe.
